ORC Week 4 – PANIC!

Thursday, October 29, 2015

It’s week 4 of the One Room Challenge and I’m officially freaking out! I’ve been out of town three of the past four weeks, so I’m seriously behind schedule. I need to kick it into overdrive this weekend or this room definitely won’t be finished in time. OK, before I completely start panicking, let’s talk about what I accomplished since last week.

I pulled out all of the new bedding and pillows so I could put the bed together. I’m seriously obsessed with this set. I love the print on this side and it’s reversible with a cute print on the other side too. Kudos Lauren Conrad…too bad I’ve sworn off Kohl’s after my last terrible experience and will never be able to buy your products again.

I hung the new curtain rod and curtains. Of course they are too long, so I have to add ‘hem curtains’ to my to-do list. Regardless, I’m happy with my choices and it’ll all look even better once the curtains are the correct length. Rod and curtains are from Target.

And yeah, that’s it. My grand plan from last week of refinishing the nightstands and finding/hanging artwork by this update didn’t happen. Yikes! The clock is ticking!

ORC Week 3 – Freshly Painted

Thursday, October 22, 2015

Hello from Philadelphia! I’m on business travel this week, but I do have some progress to share today. I mean, it’s already the third week of the One Room Challenge, I better have something to share this week, amiright?! The clock is ticking! Anyway, let’s talk progress – the walls are painted!

After much deliberation, I picked December Sky by Dunn-Edwards. It’s a nice light gray color and I’m happy with my choice. Luckily the ceiling and trim was done somewhat recently, so I didn’t have to mess with either of those (except for a few touchups). All I needed to do was paint a couple coats on the walls. Of course easier said than done, but it was definitely a quicker project than when I painted my bedroom.

I got my new sheets washed and on the bed, so now I just need to wash the rest of the bedding and buy inserts for a couple of the shams. That’s my goal for next week plus I want to get the curtains hung, paint at least one of the nightstands, and find some artwork for the walls. I get back from Philadelphia tomorrow night so hopefully I’ll have enough energy to tackle the room this weekend.

With three weeks left, let’s take a look at the to-do list:

Paint walls
Buy new bedding and pillows
Paint nightstands
Buy/hang curtains
Paint dresser
Hang artwork
Finishing touches/accessories

ORC Week 2 – A Few Purchases

Thursday, October 15, 2015

It’s week 2 of the One Room Challenge and as I suspected, I don’t have much progress to show today. We got back from Italy Saturday night, so I was pretty worthless the rest of the weekend and the first few days this week. Seriously, I haven’t made it past 8:30 p.m. since I’ve been back. Plus I have so much good stuff on my DVR to watch! Anyway, last week I shared my mood board and plans for the guest bedroom makeover.

Luckily I did plan ahead a bit, so I actually have something to show you today. I’ve already bought the new bedding, shams, and sheets for the room. It’s all from Kohl’s and I love it, but VERY long story short, I’ll never shop there again. I battled their customer service for a couple weeks and I’m still pissed enough that I’ve vowed to never spend another dollar online or in stores.

I also bought new curtains for the room. They’re from Target, but I had to order them online. They only carry the 84” panels in store, but I needed longer ones from this room.  I ordered them during a Buy 1, Get 1 40%-off sale, plus additional 10%-off so I got a great deal on the pair. I love the fringe detail!

I need to paint the room before I add any of those pieces, so that’s my goal this weekend. I still need to pick a paint color and we all know how hard it is to decide on a gray. There are so many options! At least this room will be easier to paint than my master bedroom!
So, I don’t have much progress to show on my to-do list this week, but here it is:

Paint walls
Buy new bedding and pillows
Paint nightstands
Buy/hang curtains
Paint dresser
Hang artwork
Finishing touches/accessories

ORC Week 1 – Guest Bedroom Mood Board

Thursday, October 8, 2015

It’s time for another round of the One Room Challenge! Thanks to Linda at Calling it Home for hosting the link up party again. If you are new to the challenge you can read more here, but basically it’s a six week challenge to makeover one room. Don't forget to stop by and check out the official participants here and other linking participants' rooms here!

In the past I’ve worked on my laundry room, master bathroom, and dining room. For this round I’m making over my guest bedroom! You haven’t seen much of it in the past couple years because it’s been a serious mess. All of the junk was moved out a couple months ago and it’s ready for a complete refresh! Here’s how the room looks now:

Yeah, not much more than a bed, nightstand, lamp and high-water curtains. The bed is staying, but everything else is going to be re-painted or replaced. As usual, I put together a mood board to pull all of my ideas together. Of course everything is subject to change, but it really helps me visualize how everything will look together. So, here’s my plan for the guest bedroom:

I’m going to start by painting the walls a light gray. I like the blue, but I’m sick of it and ready for a change. As I mentioned above, I’m keeping the bed, but I’m going to change out the bedding and pillows. I’m also replacing the IKEA nightstand with the old set from my master bedroom. They’ll need a fresh coat of paint though.

Of course I’ll be adding new lamps and accessories, plus hanging artwork and a mirror. Depending on space I might bring in a dresser and chair too. I’m also planning on replacing the curtains with a longer pair.

I’m excited to see how this room turns out. I’m already worried about time because I’m currently in Italy and although I’m flying home this weekend, I’m sure I’ll be jetlagged and not feel like painting or doing anything in here. Oh well, I’ll just have to catch up in the following weeks!

OK, let’s look at the to-do list:

Paint walls
Buy new bedding and pillows
Paint nightstands
Buy/hang curtains
Paint dresser
Hang artwork
Finishing touches/accessories
